Caran d'Ache's Grafwood (reference 775) is a range of artist graphite pencils manufactured in the company's Geneva, Switzerland workshops, with hexagonal barrels of FSC-certified cedar. It is sold in 15 lead graduations, from 9B (softest) through HB and F to 4H (hardest), each barrel lacquered in a tone keyed to its grade — a pale, near-silver finish on the hardest leads darkening to almost black on the softest — so the grade can be read at a glance. The pencils are intended for sketching, drawing and tonal work such as portraiture, and carry no eraser.
